Edinburgh Law School Boardroom
I feel very privileged to have been selected to design and produce the boardroom table and chairs for the University of Edinburgh’s recently refurbished Law School boardroom.
My brief from the faculty was to design a multifunctional board table that could be used in different configurations to meet the requirements for the varied uses of the room. The outcome of my development led to the production of two oak tables at a size of 1.8 x 0.9 metres that sit six people per table. The table surfaces are held on bespoke running gear which slide and unfold, to create two tables at a size of 1.8 x 1.8 metres that sit twelve people per table.
To create the board table the two tables are arranged to sit side by side and are connected together with two rails that are housed within the framework of each table. The rails and frames have bespoke stainless steel fixings that allow for a tool free, push fit connection. Once the frames are connected the surfaces are simply folded out to create the 3.6 x 1.8 metre table, sitting a maximum of sixteen people.
The faculty decided to commission twenty four of my Alma stacking chairs as this was the maximum seating configuration, twelve in an all oak construction and twelve in all oak with a leather seat liner. For more information on the Alma chair, please contact Dare Studio.
